Google will no longer scan user mailboxes to personalize ads

Google intends to abandon the scanning of user mailboxes Gmail to personalize advertising. This is stated in the corporate blog from the face of the Vice-President Diane Greene.

Paid Gmail service in the G Suite is not used as input data to personalize ads. This year the service intends to move to this practice and against free users.

“Gmail in the G Suite is not used as input data to personalize ads. This year we plan to go to this practice and in relation to the free Gmail users,” — said in a statement.

Previously free mailboxes automatically scanned Google to identify user data, which would allow to more accurately select the advertising. After the intended innovation users of the free Gmail will still get ads, but they will be able to configure it yourself.

According to Google, at the moment, Gmail was more than 1.2 billion users.

Note that in 2015 the Moscow city court, the court decided that the indexation of emails in Gmail violates the right of Russian citizens to privacy of correspondence of users. He acknowledged, OOO “Google” is guilty of “reading personal emails” user Anton Burkov and fined 50 000 rubles.
