Google introduced the platform Eddystone – a competitor to Apple’s iBeacon for Android devices

Google has announced the launch platform Eddystone – original technologies for indoor positioning, which is analogous to running in 2013 Apple iBeacon. Eddystone is an open standard for data transmission between smartphones and local beacons.

Support iBeacon appeared on iPhone and iPad with the release of iOS 7. The function works on the basis of low-power transmitters. In simple words it can be described as more accurate GPS that works indoors. Technology allows stores to transfer to mobile device data related to a particular product. Approaching any gadget, the user will see on the screen of an iPhone or iPad detailed information about this product, such as price or detailed description.

iBeacon is already in use at major retailers like Macy’s, American Eagle, The Bay, Lord & Taylor and Walmart, as well as the MLB stadiums and airports. Last year, technology-enabled Apple got the Love Republic stores in Russia.

Eddystone also lets you create custom trackers that work on Bluetooth technology. The user who hits the range, can get on a smartphone information that is programmed on the device. It can be informational messages about any discounts or special offers, depending on Department store where the buyer, or notice that will help in search of a place at a big stadium or in the theater.

Google hopes that with the help of Eddystone, developers can create advanced beacons. For example, those who will be able to provide the bus schedule at the approach of the user to stop, or those that allow you to check the ticket when attending the event.

Support Eddystone will become one of the distinguishing features of Android smartphone. In contrast to the iBeacon, to send a notification to the user will not need to install the mobile app from a company, the client stores or restaurants.
