Google: even if iMessage will appear on Android, it will not support SMS

In the Network periodically there are rumors that Apple is planning to release a version of iMessage for Android, and some experts even consider it the right decision. Recently, Justin Uberti, lead developer of Google and part-time project Manager Google Allo, in his Twitter account expressed the opinion that iMessage on Android will not be a success. One of the reasons, in his opinion, is that iMessage is a staff app in iOS, but on Android it will not support SMS (it is, in fact, will be one mobile messenger).

At the end of last month, information appeared that Apple is actively working on iMessage for Android, and even ready a few different design options. In turn, it is likely that Uberti fears for Google Allo, the appearance of which sparked a lot of disapproving reviews – in particular, due to the lack of the ability to share files, integration with Duo and standard SMS. Of course, the real situation, we did not know until then, until Apple announces its own version of messenger, but wary of competitors is understandable.

Nevertheless, even if iMessage will be released on Android without support for SMS, we believe that it will become popular at least because Apple has a large user base, and on the background of chat from Google looks pretty bleak. Moreover, support SMS recently ceased to be an important aspect of the messenger, because mobile messaging is now not very popular (except for notifications for authorization, or, in extreme cases, when there is no Internet connection).

In turn, it is not clear how development is Allo Google: latest updates chat only eliminated errors, but the important innovations we saw. But all goes to the fact that Allo will eventually supplant the Hangouts main Android-messenger.
