Facebook announced the advent of his messenger “secret chats” with full encryption

Messenger Facebook will be a new option “secret chats” – protected endpoint encryption end-to-end. It will allow users to share messages and photos without fear that this data will see a stranger.

As stated in the blog Facebook, read messages sent in these chats, only the intended recipient and only for one device. Besides, in chat it will be possible to configure the time after which all messages will be impossible.

The developers of the social network are sure that the activation of encryption for private conversations, will give users more privacy to discuss intimate topics such as health issues or information about finances. “We heard from you that there are times when you want additional guarantees of protection,” writes Facebook.

The secret chats are not available and video support animated gif images, sending of payments and other functions available in the normal messenger.

So far, the chats, the protected endpoint encryption is available to a limited number of users of Facebook. The social network promises to gradually expand the number of users during the summer.

About the launch of end-to-end encryption for messages and phone calls of their users in April announced Viber. A month earlier, the encryption is end-to-end appeared in the messenger WhatsApp, which has about 1 billion users and is the most popular messenger in the world. Another common messenger – Telegram – has a function of end-to-end encryption since its release in 2013.
