The American fighter of the fifth generation F-35 Lightning II in comparison with the Russian Su-57 turns out to be more “digital” than the iPhone resembles, military expert Andrei Frolov writes in Izvestia.
In his opinion, the F-35 Lightning II is "a kind of iPhone, which can be a useless toy at any time if you do not have a permanent connection to the Apple Store and regular updates."
“The manufacturer can block the software at any time. The capabilities of the Su-57 are classified, but I think it is not so “digital” as the F-35, ”the expert is sure.
In July, Defense One wrote that about 30 F-35 Lightning II units, originally intended for Turkey, could be offered to existing or potential customers. The United States refused to transfer these planes to Ankara due to the acquisition by the Republic of Russian S-400 complexes.
In June 2018, it was reported that the United States could transfer F-35 Lightning II to Turkey with a stripped-down ALIS (Autonomic Logistics Information System) system.
