In March of this year, the company filed a lawsuit against Cao Guangzhi, accusing him of transferring her technology regarding autopilot operations to the American division of the Chinese company Xiaopeng Motors. She also develops electric cars.

Cao Guangzhi admitted that he downloaded the data at the end of 2018 when he worked at Tesla. However, he insists that he completely deleted all this information and did not transfer it to Xiaopeng Motors. Currently, he heads the department in this company, specializing in the development of an electronic assistant for driving a car.
Tesla has formally requested information from Apple within this trial. Although she is not a party to this dispute, one of her former employees was also accused of stealing data representing a commercial secret and transferring them to Xiaopeng Motors. Tesla expects to receive information relating to this employee, including his electronic correspondence.
Representatives of Xiaopeng Motors said they did not know of any violations by their employees who came to the company from Tesla or Apple.
