Epic Games plans to launch a game store on iOS and Android
According to Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, the Epic Games store may soon appear on mobile platforms such as iOS and Android.
Epic Games Store is an Epic Games-created video game distribution platform known for titles like Fortnite and Gears of War. The platform was launched on MacOS in 2018. Now, it is reported that the distribution platform will switch to iOS “in the future,” Sweeney said in an interview with GameSpot on Tuesday.

“We believe this is a good way to help the industry move forward, and this is another way that Epic, as a game developer, has gathered this audience around Fortnite and learned how to manage the distribution platform on PC and Android,” Sweeney said.
According to GameSpot, Epic Games originally planned to launch mobile versions of its distribution platform in 2019. Although it has not been announced this year, Sweeney is still interested in porting EGS to mobile devices such as iOS and Android.
Whether the company will be able to infiltrate Apple remains unclear. Apple restricts third-party app stores from working on iOS.
Sweeney had previously criticized the Apple AppStore for cutting down App purchases and subscriptions too much. Apple entered the mobile gaming market for a long time, and in 2019 launched the Apple Arcade subscription gaming service.
