Eora 3D: the first affordable 3D scanner for iPhone

The company Eora 3D announces a revolution in the segment of three-dimensional scanners. Now just in few minutes you can create a virtual model of relatively small objects. This was possible thanks to the first affordable 3D scanner, developed by Australian firm.

Eora 3D is connected to the smartphone. Green laser in a cylindrical housing manages the app via Bluetooth. During scanning iPhone simultaneously controls the rotation of the scanner on the stand and take the picture of the item to scan, then the data is matched and the output is a color 3D object.

The scanner is able to digitize an object up to 200 millimetres in height from a distance of one meter and a precision of 0.2 mm. The process of scanning the model takes about five minutes. The slogan for developers: “8 million points in 5 minutes”.

Development of the laser has been completed, one of the prototypes used by the jewellery company. At the moment Eora 3D talks about mass production.

Retail price of new items will be about $ 200. It’s not much, considering that the cost of modern 3D laser scanners is in the thousands and even tens of thousands of dollars. According to the company, it is the high price of existing 3D scanners and pushed them in 2013 to start developing the available options.

About the release date Eora 3D yet known. The device will be compatible with iPhone 5/5c/5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
