Chinese authorities suspect the Apple gadgets in espionage

The Chinese authorities conduct thorough checks sold in the country Apple mobile devices. In China believe that the products may pose a threat to national security. Inspections are conducted by the administration of cyberspace in the country.

China checks Apple gadgets and other foreign technology companies for threats to the security of the state, according to Kommersant. This deals with the cyberspace administration of China.

One of the Chinese sources, suggests that testing devices began in the beginning of last year — because of suspicions of espionage. Similar checks are conducted in other countries, but with one significant difference: they relate mainly to military equipment and not household.

No details of inspections, the Chinese authorities did not disclose, however, according to an anonymous source, special attention is paid to data encryption and storage of personal information on the gadgets. The source also reports that the Chinese authorities are trying to ferret out commercial secrets of companies, asking their representatives about how valid the data encryption on a particular device and what are the vulnerabilities of the system.

The measures ultimately can lead to access to Chinese market to Apple and other foreign companies will have to disclose encryption codes to the Chinese government, and thus to share the secrets of their technology. Otherwise, the Chinese market is closed to them. Meanwhile, China is the second largest market (after the US) for Apple.

Foreign producers are invited to play by Chinese rules, which are explained in April of this year in one of the speeches of the country’s leader XI Jinping: either imported products becomes under the control of China and therefore more “safe” for the state, or China closes its market to foreign companies and stands on the path of developing its own technology.
