Analytical Agency Content Review conducted a study of the coverage of LTE networks in Moscow and the nearest Moscow region operators “the big three” — Beeline, MegaFon and MTS. According to reports by RBC, the analysis was based on data for the December 2015 service Opensignal, which in the background collecting information from users who have downloaded its app.
According to the results of the study, it was investigated which part of the study area (considered the capital of the region, limited on the map 50×50 km) is covered by 4G networks of each of the operators “big three”.
The undisputed leader was recognized as “MegaFon”, the density of coverage of 4G networks which is 32.2%. “The company’s leadership among the “big three” due to the fact that MegaFon was the first to build a 4G network in Moscow and the region, so companies and managed to get ahead,” say the study authors. As of the end of the third quarter of 2015 in the capital and in the region of “MegaFon” consists of 6 000 base stations supporting LTE, according to the company.
Second place in the ranking went to the MTS with the density of the coating at 30.9%, in the third, respectively, placed “Beeline” with a score of 28.8%. It is noted that MTS and “Beeline” chose not to disclose the number of base stations in their assets. Summing up, Polovnikov said that within the ring road all three operators show similar results, because in the capital they seek to ensure maximum coverage.
