BMW does not exclude the possibility of creating an electric vehicle together with Apple

BMW reported that negotiations with Apple on the use of software and hardware in their products, however, denied the rumors about the joint work on the car. This was told by a top Manager of a German company Oliver the Zips.

“We regularly negotiate with companies in the telecommunication and IT industries, including Apple, about topics related to automotive opportunities of networking and system BMW Connected Drive. The development and production of vehicles is not the subject of these discussions,” said Oliver Zips. To a journalist’s question about the possibility of creating an electric vehicle with Apple, the top Manager responded positively, stating: “We live in a world of partnerships”.

In February, Bloomberg reported that Apple intends to launch production of electric vehicles in 2020. Project cars, developed in high secrecy, was approved by the company’s CEO Tim cook about a year ago. Responsible for the development Vice President, product design Steve Sadecki, who previously worked in the Corporation’s Ford.

Typically, automakers take up to 7 years to develop a new model. The desire of Apple to start production of its own electric car in such a short time demonstrates the company’s desire to enter the battle with competitors such as Tesla Motors and General Motors, the observers say.

In March the German edition Auto Motor und Sport reported that Apple and BMW are negotiating the joint development of an electric vehicle under the “Apple” brand. According to the information resource, Apple’s engineers were impressed by the BMW electric cars with a body made of carbon fiber.
