Beeline plans to launch VoLTE in St. Petersburg

“Beeline” has high hopes for running in early August in the Moscow region the technology of voice transmission on networks of 4G VoLTE. Despite the fact that the market is getting ready for the mass adoption of the new standard and, according to experts, this will happen not earlier than in a year – plans “Beeline” gradual launch of the new technology in the regions. And first of all the appearance of VoLTE have to wait in St. Petersburg.

Cardinal calls on technology VoLTE (Voice over LTE) from all existing (as in 2G and 3G and 4G) that is spent in conversation no voice and Internet traffic, that is, the call is executed in parallel with data transmission on the same channel. Operators see this as an opportunity to offload the network and to compete with popular VAS applications that also use the Internet connection to make calls. Along with “Beeline”, an active interest in VoLTE show and MegaFon, and MTS, but the first to announce the launch of the technology in operation decided to “Beeline”.

The quality of voice using VoLTE technology is the same as when used with wideband audio for HD Voice. But this is not its only advantage. A more significant advantage for the subscriber will be saving “minutes” (if such a phone call “minutes” to be spent will not be) and battery charging (due to the absence of the usual “jumps” between 2G/3G/4G, that is, CSFB). Also “Beeline” announces a six-fold reduction in connection time and opportunity during the conversation goes on the Internet.

His statement about the launch VoLTE “Beeline” is far ahead of the market. The operator is ready today to provide all of these benefits, only one smartphone model: Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 (5.5). And MTS, for example, tested on the Sony Xperia Z3. It remains to wait for the release of smartphones with support for VoLTE will connect to Apple and Samsung (in talks), and, not least, the leading manufacturers of low-end models like Lenovo and Fly. The waiting time may be delayed because the new technology requires the creation of a fundamentally new software.

In addition, we must not forget that the 4G network of “Beeline” covers the St. Petersburg suburbs and towns in the area, but when you move away from these centers, the subscriber will again switch to 3G/2G. Therefore, for the operator a question of launching VoLTE is still an incentive to develop the infrastructure. Another reason for hesitation may be the fact that to use the innovation the user is just required tariff with unlimited Internet, and not the cheapest to limit traffic, notes SpbIT.

In St. Petersburg with LTE coverage at “Beeline” okay, and cultural capital may well be the second city, where the operator will connect VoLTE – their plans in the regions shared by the representatives of “Beeline” at the presentation in Moscow. However, no exact date was not yet named: so far, everything depends on the results of the pilot project.
