ARM: by the end of next year, the performance of mobile graphics will surpass the capabilities of the PS4 and Xbox One

One of the largest developers of processors for mobile devices, the company ARM, says that in the near future smartphones and tablets in terms of graphics capabilities ahead of modern gaming console.

But for all these years, the performance of consoles will not change. The company can certainly make some changes, but they are not significant.

At the same time, system on a chip for mobile devices are developing rapidly. This applies to CPUs and GPUs. Now the most productive GPU in the iPhone 6s and iPad Pro show impressive performance.

As told the head of the ARM ecosystem Nizar Romdan, the company designs the mobile chips of the next generation. At the end of 2017 will be the solution that will be able to provide visual capabilities not lower than PS4 and Xbox One. According to Romana, in terms of performance, these GPU even exceed capabilities of the current generation of consoles. To be precise, the ARM representative said that they will be able to provide the best level of quality graphics.

“Mobile devices already have high productivity. If you take a modern smartphone or tablet high-end, it will show a higher performance than a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. The mobile platform is quickly catching up to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One,” said Ramdan.

The emergence of high-performance mobile chips (including graphics) of new generation is expected to lead to rapid development of virtual reality systems. In fact, such devices will be able to fully rely on mobile computing units instead of PCs and stationary consoles.

If you focus on the slides from the presentation, ARM believes that by the end of 2017 performance GPU in single chip systems will reach 2 TFLOPS, while the PlayStation 4 this figure is 1.84 TFLOPS.
