Apple Music is stealing from musicians like Taylor swift photographers

After the publication of the open letter to Taylor swift in which she accused Apple of offering users a free three-month subscription to its music service and not pay contributions for this period artists, she tries to earn at the expense of the musicians, the singer herself has been criticized. British photographer Jason Sheldon said that swift double standards: on the one hand it stands for equity performers, with another — the same policy applies, and Apple towards the photographers.

According to Sheldon, all photographers taking photographs at concerts Taylor swift, according to the contract are allowed to sell the pictures to Newspapers only once, after which the rights are permanently transferred to the singer. Thus, she can use the photos in any time and many times for free. Sheldon believes that by exploiting the labor of the photographers, the artist is no different from Apple.

“The photographers also need to earn a living. Also, like Apple, you can afford to pay for their work, so don’t deprive us and our work, “he said, adding that many of his colleagues do not assert their rights for fear that the next time the PR Agency doesn’t want to work with them”.

Representatives of Taylor swift responded that Sheldon incorrectly interpreted the terms of the contract, according to the resource Intermedia. Actually photographers who shoot at concerts in support of the album “1989” may use the pictures as much as you want, but in agreement with the management of the singer.

Apple, by the way, went to meet Taylor swift and agreed to pay compensation to the independent artists for streaming their works in a new streaming music service from the very start. How many will get the musicians in the three-month period, while Apple Music will be free, not specified. After service will start to work on a paid subscription, the company plans to list on the payments to the musicians a little more than 70% of revenue.
