Apple Music is a leader in the payments to the musicians among streaming services

Apple’s main rival Music service Spotify, has repeatedly been accused of too-small payments to musicians. The case went to trial in 2015, when the company put forward a claim for $150 million for what Spotify has implemented a streaming music $75 million users without paying royalties and without even trying to search for authors. According to the RIAA, Spotify pays two times less royalties than Apple.

The problem with royalties is not that simple as it might seem, said Content Review. Apple entered the market of streaming services one of the last, suggesting to the authors calibrated and streamlined mechanism of the legal relationship. Spotify on the contrary, was one of the originators of the market, and today is reaping the fruits of the chaos that was happening at the crossroads of epochs. In fact, today there is no single database is copyright, so to find who owns the rights to a track that is almost impossible. Music is not only tracks, produced by stars and labels. To solve this problem came from a startup Mediachain that on the day swallowed Spotify.

Mediachain creates a secure database of copyright for online services and companies. It is based on the same technologies that are used in cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin. Such a database should help Spotify and other companies are willing to pay royalties, but simply do not know — who.

Founder Medichain Jesse Walden identified two main elements that are important to royalty: who created the content and who owns the rights to its distribution. For a long time all of these data were not consolidated in one place. Some of them contains someone’s table, others are legally required to do so, but such contracts may join among themselves in a conflict of interest. To make out what belongs to whom, is impossible. Need a single database, the registry, referring to which it will be possible to identify immediately who the author is and who should pay for the use of the track.

At the same time on YouTube, you can earn very good money. For example, at an average rate of over 1000 hits / Fifth Harmony could get for his video Work from Home about $1.2 million, Calvin Harris and Rihanna for This Is What You Came For — a little over a million dollars, and for Nicky Jam Hasta El Amanecer – $900 000.
