Apple joined the Wireless Power consortium on the background of rumors of wireless charging in the iPhone 8

The list of companies included in the Wireless Power consortium, added another party – Apple. The news came amid rumours about the development of iPhone that supports wireless charging.

Organization of Wireless Power Consortium established to develop and promote the standard of wireless charging of mobile devices, has received another important participant in the face of the iPhone maker. This fact is expected to lead to more rapid development and widespread wireless standard for transmitting electricity, and what do the members of the WPC.

The Wireless Power Consortium has not officially announced the replenishment of its ranks. Now, however, the name Apple is listed on the official website in the list of the 213 members of the organization. And, judging by the Google cache a week ago the “Apple” giant was not included in this list.

The Wireless Power consortium was established in December 2008 and is promoting wireless charging technology. Its members are companies such as ConvenientPower, Duracell, Samsung, Dell, Leggett & Platt, ASUS, Nokia, National Semiconductor, Olympus, Philips, MediaTek, Sanyo, Texas Instrument, Pantech, Panasonic, and others.

IHS Technology analysts believe that Apple is no longer able to hide the plans to implement wireless charging in the iPhone. The study showed that a single standard for wireless charging is the leader among the expectations of consumers of mobile gadgets is more than 90% of respondents said they would use such a device.

According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, all or nearly all models of the iPhone, which Apple plans to release this year, will come with wireless charging devices.

The experts did not specify how exactly will be implemented wireless charging of smartphones Apple. It is likely that new iPhone will get a standard charging technology in the middle of the action – the number of Android devices support it for several years. However, it was earlier repeatedly reported that Apple is working on advanced technology, able to charge devices at a distance up to 5 meters, so maybe the owners of new smartphones waiting for something new.
