Apple has suspended the payment of royalties for the use of patents to Qualcomm

In the beginning of the year, Apple filed a lawsuit against his chip supplier Qualcomm. According to Apple, the company abused its dominant position on the market as a manufacturer of modems — one of the most important devices in smartphones and tablets.

This week it became known that Apple has suspended the payment of contract manufacturers means that these manufacturers have to pay Qualcomm a royalty for use of patented developments in the production sold in the first quarter of this year. This was reported by representatives of Qualcomm. Apple noted that they would not do it until the dispute is resolved.

Qualcomm to regard this behavior as interference in a long-term agreement with Qualcomm licensees, emphasizing that the agreements remain valid and to fulfil their conditions can resort to legal means.

Thus Apple has demonstrated that it considers the terms of the agreements unfair. However, these agreements were effective between Qualcomm and the manufacturers of the devices the iPad and iPhone for years. The American chip maker expressed its intention to protect its business model and the right to receive equitable remuneration for the technological contribution to the development of the industry.

In connection with the actions of Apple, the company Qualcomm has had to be adjusted forecast of financial results for the first quarter, given that Apple’s manufacturing partners will not pay royalties.
