After the departure of Steve jobs, Tim cook became the new head of Apple, and to some extent, however, he only legalized their status – while jobs struggled with the disease, cook took a lot of management decisions. Tim cook has led Apple about four years ago, shortly before the death of its legendary co-founder. Before joining as CEO cook practically not known outside the company and few expected that he would occupy the role of head of Apple. But the story originates from childhood, which Tim spent in a small town in Alabama.
Tim cook was born in Mobile, he grew up in nearby Robertsdale. His father Donald worked in the shipyards; mother Geraldine worked in a pharmacy. After graduating from school, cook entered the University of Auburn, which he successfully graduated in 1982 with a bachelor of industrial engineering. In 1988 cook received a master’s degree in business management in the University of Duke. In 2015, the businessman received an honorary doctorate degree from the George Washington University.
After finishing his first University cook took personal computers from IBM; the lesson it took him 12 years. He later was promoted to Director of the project “North American Fulfillment”. Later, cook also held the position of operations Director in the sales division of Intelligent Electronics and as Vice President of corporate materials at Compaq. In Apple’s cook invited in 1998; it later admitted himself to cook, he agreed to work in the company after his first meeting with Steve jobs. Cook very cleverly kept the cost of the various stages of production within reasonable limits, coupled with design and marketing successes of the company – in the end ensured a very impressive profit.
In January 2007, cook was made chief operating officer of the company; in 2009 he was offered the post of head of the company. Steve jobs at that time do anything I could for health reasons. In January 2011, the Board of Directors of Apple approved jobs his third leave of absence for medical reasons; during this period, on the shoulders of the cook was a large part of the current problems of the enterprise, while jobs were mainly involved in major strategic decisions.

After cook took over as Apple CEO, his life has changed. He was under the scrutiny of observers, experts, skeptics, and ordinary users, and was obliged to bear the responsibility for the company. Cook, according to his colleagues, is a good Manager and strives to create the same “magic” that was Steve Jobs.
At the same time, cook less focused on product development than former chief Executive of Apple, which manic was watching the smallest details of new devices. Its policy, the CEO moved on and the development of “smart” hours: more opportunities to promote their ideas got other top managers, in particular, the company’s chief designer Jonathan Ive.
Tim cook himself is struggling to attract investors and to strengthen the faith of shareholders, it held a stock split, raised dividend, and gave a large sum on the repurchase of securities of Apple. He is taking other steps, conquering the huge Chinese market by acquiring promising companies, including Beats. He is actively involved in charity, encourages its employees, expressed support for the programme for the protection of the environment and even advocates for gay rights. In the past two years, Apple employees have donated to charity about $50 million.
Tim cook cannot be called passive and boring Manager. On the contrary, he surprised many by releasing a 4-inch iPhone 5 and 7.9-inch iPad mini. He took this step, knowing that Steve jobs during his life unflattering comments about compact tablets. Sales of the iPad mini quickly exceeded sales of full-size iPad. According to analysts from Gartner and ABI Research, in the first year the share of mini tablet accounted for 60% of total iPad sales for the specified period of time.
But cook some initiatives have been controversial. For example, in addition to the flagship iPhone 5s Apple released the iPhone 5c in the plastic housing. In the end, the last sale did not go to any comparison with the iPhone 5s, as a result, its production had to be reduced by half.
