AirPlay 2 iOS 11: functionality, features, compatible devices

2017 at WWDC Apple announced new operating system iOS 11 with a huge number of innovations. One of the key innovations was the 2 AirPlay, which can stream video and audio from your iPhone, iPad or Mac to compatible devices. AirPlay 2 combines the functionality of the original Protocol and three innovations that are designed to rethink the way you interact with technology.

Before proceeding to the description of AirPlay 2, should list the device which will be compatible with the technology.

Possible AirPlay 2

What is special about AirPlay 2? First, the update brought support for managing columns in the standard application “Home”. This means that users can now select what kind of speaker system to stream music and control the volume level on each speaker.

Second, AirPlay 2 allows you to simultaneously play music on multiple speakers located in different rooms that is perfect for parties. Each device has a separate volume control.

Finally, AirPlay allows 2 different users to add tracks to a playlist, which again will be useful for parties. Apple demonstrated how the functions work in the standard Apple Music app and opened an API for third-party developers.

Audio system compatible with AirPlay 2

Of course, HomePod will support AirPlay 2 out of the box, but with the existing speakers, the situation is not so straightforward. Libratone and Naim have already confirmed that their devices are compatible with AirPlay first generation, will receive AirPlay support 2 with the release of the update, while Bowers & Wilkins stated that the new standard will be only in the new models.
