Litigation between Apple and the so-called patent troll VirnetX Holdings Corp has been going on for several years and it seems that another lawsuit is brewing. This week, the U.S. Court of Appeals overturned a jury ruling that ordered Apple to pay VirnetX plaintiff compensation in the amount of $ 503 million for patent infringement. The case was sent back to the district court for review.

The decision made by the court of appeal became controversial. The fact is that the court upheld the decision of the US jury in the eastern district of Texas that iPhone violates two patents for secure communications technology owned by VirnetX. At the same time, he canceled two other points. Now the district court must determine whether the amount of damage and compensation caused can simply be recounted, or whether a new trial is necessary.
Note that the lawsuit between Apple and VirnetX began nine years ago. And the court is now considering two cases, one of which issued a decision to recover $ 440 million from Apple, but the California giant filed an appeal.
