71% of Apple mobile devices are running iOS 9, while Android 6.0 Marshmallow has 0.5% market

The final version of iOS 9 came out almost three months ago. Apple has published new data showing that during this time the platform has been installed on 71% of compatible devices. Against the backdrop of “Apple” OS speed fresh adaptation of Android 6.0 is depressing.

Permissiveness has made Android OS the most common just a few years, at the same time limiting the ability to install one version on all supported devices. This is not surprising, because each third-party manufacturer makes its own changes to the source code, giving Google the ability to update all devices at once, as it happens with Nexus.

At the same time, Apple’s, despite the sprawling range of mobile devices, continues to strictly control the process of updating its own mobile devices, achieving by mid-December increase in the share of iOS 9 to 71%. For comparison, operating system Android 6.0 Marshmallow, released shortly after the iOS 9, set in the present time, approximately 0.5% of all active devices. Android 5 Lollipop is just over a quarter of the market phones, but Android 4.4 KitKat is in the lead with 36.6 percent of the market, although it has been presented more than two years ago.

In fairness, we note that about 8% of Apple devices continue to work on iOS versions below eighth. On the one hand, this is due to the expiration of support devices, and the unwillingness of some owners to upgrade to new versions of the system. In any case, most experts agree that a strong fragmentation of ecosystems brings nothing good and can potentially harm all market participants due to the impossibility of total eradication of critical security threats.
