Analyst firm Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) has revealed sales numbers for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in the last quarter of 2016. The company confirmed the approval of the Apple on a large percentage of users who clicked on these models with Android.
According to the research, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus ahead of the iPhone 6s/6s Plus in the last quarter of last year. New smartphones passed mainly owners of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. While Android defectors at the end of 2016 was more than a year earlier, according to CIRP.
16% of buyers of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus has been updated by them with the iPhone 6s or 6s Plus, 37% of users moved on to “seven” with the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. The report notes that in the December quarter, 15% of buyers of iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus went to the flagship Android-smartphone, whereas a year earlier the same figure for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus was 14%. In 2014, only 12% of new buyers of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have made the former owners of Android.
In its recent earnings report, Apple stressed the fact that in 2016 the number of users who switched from Android to iPhone, have reached a record.
“New models of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus attracted first of all the iPhone fans and not the owners of Android-devices, – said partner and CIRP co-founder Mike Levin. – 15% of buyers of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus switched them with Android phones, which is more than in the case with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, a year earlier.”
In CIRP emphasize that the increased number of defectors from Android can not be called a huge contribution to the success of the iPhone 7. “The most successful iPhone launch in recent years were caused by upgrades to the current iPhone users switching from the Android to are affected to a lesser extent,” said Levin.
Apple itself never shared details on the iPhone sales, so it’s mostly statistics and analyst reports. The company officially will announce financial results for the fourth quarter on January 31.
