5 new features in the Photos app in OS X El Capitan

The upcoming OS X this fall, El Capitan will offer users many new features, including updated Photo app for Mac. It is worth noting that this will be the first firmware update lenses Apple after the release of OS X Yosemite 10.10.3.

In an official note to OS X El Capitan says that Photo 1.1 includes a half-dozen new features, fixing many bugs, improve security and increase productivity. According to Apple, the Photo will be able to access a large library of 40% faster.

Nevertheless, all who are planning to upgrade your collection of photos, note that they are not backward compatible. If you update the existing library to version Photo 1.1 in OS X El Capitan, you will no longer be able to access them on OS X Yosemite or older versions of the operating system.

Even if improved by 40% performance will not be enough for owners of huge libraries of photos, the Photos app allows you reduce the load by using multiple smaller libraries. Press and hold the Alt key and then click on the icon in the Photos app to select an existing library or create a new one. Note that iCloud photo Library and photo Stream is only available in the main library, which is called the “System library.”

Filters and tools from third party developers

In version 1.1 the app developers will be able to create your own filters and tools for editing images. While the Photo app for iOS supports third-party extensions since the release of the eighth version of the mobile operating system, Mac users will get this feature after the release of OS X El Capitan.

Extensions for Photo 1.1 can be installed in two ways: by uploading them separately, or download in conjunction with an existing app from the Mac App Store (on iOS extension can only be downloaded from the containing app from the app Store). This is good news for developers who create products for iOS and OS X: they will be able to provide the same set of filters and tools for iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Mac.

Georeferencing

The first version of the Photos app for Mac users were unable to add a mark on the map for photos without geo-information. The update will solve this long-standing problem: in the properties window will appear the feature “Specify a location”. You can either enter the address and name of a place, or put a mark on the map manually.

Group renaming

In the new version of the Photo you can rename multiple photos at once. To do this, select multiple photos, open the properties window (Cmd+ I) and select “Add name”. Write what you need – and all the selected photos will be renamed.

Unfortunately, Apple did not add more sophisticated algorithms rename photos according to the example Finder in OS X Yosemite. The latter allows you to add a unique number to the file name (e.g., “имяфайла00001.jpg”, “имяфайла00002.jpg” etc.).

Improved Faces

In addition to batch rename photos, Photo 1.1 simplifies the management Faces: now you can snap to contact only one photo at a time, but after the updates, you can “drag” multiple photos to tie them to a specific person.

Improved sorting of albums

In the 1.1 update Photos will be able to sort albums by title and date from newest to oldest or Vice versa. Now the application can only sort albums by date, from oldest to newest. Unfortunately, to build the albums in random order still cannot. However, Apple has mentioned that it plans to add more options for sorting the albums before the release of OS X this fall, El Capitan.
