Yandex has filed a complaint with the European Commission regarding the monopoly of Google in Android

“Yandex” has submitted an application to the European Commission and became an equal participant in the antitrust proceedings against Google in Europe (prior to that, from July 2014 “Yandex” had the status of a witness). The company asks to investigate possible violations of free competition from Google’s Android operating system in the EU.

As informs Rbc, in April 2015 “Yandex” has filed a formal complaint to the European Commission to investigate anti-competitive practices by Google in respect of Android in the EU territory. The essence of the claims of the company is the same as in Russia: Google binds your apps and provides them only as part of the application package Google Mobile Services (GMS), depriving manufacturers of phones and tablets to choose which components of the GMS pre-installs on their phones, and what — not.

Moreover, if the manufacturer wants to get the right preset on the app store Google Play onto your Android device, it needs to put the Google search by default, and to place all the Google apps to the most advantageous positions on the screen of your device.

Google limits access to rival Android mobile apps and services, forcing individual manufacturers of phones and tablets Android OEM to preinstall Google Play apps and Google services exclusively. Google limits the possibility of releasing devices without GMS the OEM who has signed the contract for GMS (they can’t produce the device at the same time with and without GMS GMS). Anti-competitive practices, Google has become a global trend in many countries, and the situation is so serious that requires a comprehensive solution.”

Anti-competitive practices, Google has become a global trend in many countries, and the situation is so serious that requires a comprehensive solution. The results of investigation of the European Commission, among other factors, may affect the prospects of the business of “Yandex” in Europe.

Note that on September 14, the FAS recognized the Google guilty of violating the law “On protection of competition” in part 1 of article 10 (abuse of dominance). In early October, the FAS ordered Google in a month to eliminate the detected violations, in particular, the Agency demanded that Google notified users of mobile devices with Android about the possibility to disable pre-installed apps already, standing to change default search in Google Chrome and offer to install the search widget and the services of competitors.
