With the release of 9.1 tvOS new Apple TV supported apps the Apple Remote for iOS and watchOS

The Apple ecosystem is full of paradoxes and surprises. On the one hand the company over many years supports their computers and mobile devices, on the other – you have to brand the software with new products. With the release of update 9.1 tvOS Apple has eliminated the existing restriction. Apple TV, updated to the new OS, enables you to use Remote (in Russian localization “Remote control”) for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple Watch.

The Apple app allows you to control music and video playback to Apple TV, as well as to enter characters using the virtual keyboard. It is loaded in the usual way via the App store on iOS 7.1 and above. Why Apple TV doesn’t support the app at launch, is not clear. However, now users can use the virtual keyboard to enter searches and passwords that was a big problem for first time buyers gadget.

Release 9.1 tvOS was held on 8 December at the same time with iOS 9.2, watchOS 2.1 and OS X El Capitan 10.11.2. In this update Apple fixed some errors in the release. Support for Bluetooth keyboards is still missing.
