The Network got the first pictures of the self-driving car Apple

Apple has still shied away from answering the question of whether she plans to create vehicles with automated control system. Informed sources claim that long-term attempts to assemble a team of professionals to develop their own “robomobile” has led corporate management to realize the fact that we need to focus on the development of control algorithms and software, and wishing to produce cars on the market and without Apple.

In April, Apple was forced to “come out of the shadows,” as the California DMV office officially gave the company permission to start testing prototype vehicles with the function of automatic control on the public roads of this state. However, imagine dense flows “robomobile” with a bitten Apple on the grill too early: it is just about the three hybrid crossover Lexus RX450h sample 2015, which will be allowed six-serving test drivers.

What are the objectives of this test program is not yet defined. Apple can just develop software for “autopilot” and not seek to establish production of cars under its own brand.

Caught in a Bloomberg photograph of one of the prototypes of self-driving car Apple allow you to judge which types of sensors are used for the creation of a system of “autopilot”. Wall mounting hardware is its integration into the elements of the body – the measure is quite adequate, considering the early stage of testing and low circulation of prototypes.

On the roof you can see the so-called “lidar” radar optical type, which determines the distance to surrounding objects. It is developed by Velodyne and allows to transmit information for 64 channels simultaneously.

One of several cameras is also located on the roof of the car. The prototype also has several cameras and radars of different types. Some of the equipment is placed on the bars in front of bumpers. It all still looks not very elegant, but from a different prototype is required.

The iPhone maker apparently wishes to improve the control algorithms for vehicles with automatics. As the resulting developments will be built in the range of Apple products in the future, we can only guess. One thing is sure – Apple does not want to “sleep through” the era of self-driving cars.
