The Korean communications Commission requires “an explanation” from Apple because of slow iPhone

The Korea Herald reports that the communications Commission in South Korea requires Apple to explain why the company slows down the iPhone.

Representatives of the communications Commission demanded that Apple explain the poor performance of the smartphone without warning the user. The regulator adheres to the version that Apple intentionally limited the CPU frequency.

“We hope to get an answer to the question, especially if Apple lowered the performance of the old iPhone and tried to hide it from customers”, — the statement says communications Commission.

The Korea Herald notes that “explanation” is the maximum that may require communications Commission because it has no jurisdiction over international companies, located outside of Korea.

Apple has already explained that it reduces the peak frequency of the processor to extend the battery life of the iPhone. Otherwise there may be glitches, such as disabling smartphone in the cold. However, many iPhone owners were unhappy that the company did not mention this fact.

This is not the first case when the South Korean authorities are in conflict with Apple. In November 2017, the Commission on fair trade held an investigation against Apple over unfair contracts with carriers. Before the start of sales of iPhone X the investigators not only raided but also questioned Apple employees.
