In November of this year Microsoft released their first Surface computer monobloc Studio. Increased interest in the computer “all in one” caused his unusual design and additional equipment. As Dailycomm reports, citing sources in the supply chain, the demand for a “killer” iMac from Microsoft was above expectations, despite the exorbitant price tag of the computer.
Shipments of a monoblock Surface Studio in the final quarter of the year can reach 30,000 pieces, the publication. At least, such number of copies ordered Microsoft. At the initial stage it was planned to order about 15, 000 devices.
Announcement Surface Studio took place in October of this year. The device is made on the basis of a 28-inch display with aspect ratio of 3:2 and a resolution of 4500 x 3000 pixels. The thickness of the screen of a monoblock is 12.5 mm. Thanks to the original design of the stand, tilt and the screen orientation can change from vertical to almost horizontal to use the device as a graphics tablet for drawing with stylus.
The demand for Surface Studio was significant despite the high price. The budget configuration of a monoblock made on the basis of Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 1 TB drive will cost about $3000. A mid-range configuration on Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM and 1 TB drive is now $3500. Top model Studio Surface on the chip Intel Core i7 with 32GB of RAM and a storage capacity of 2 TB is estimated at $4200.
According to analysts Digitimes Research, the global market combined is dropping about 3-5% per year, and in 2017, this decline may persist. The largest manufacturer of such devices is Lenovo, second place is Apple, which each year produces 3.5-4 million iMac.
Since the iMac lineup this year has not undergone major changes, Microsoft will probably be able to win over part of the potential demand for all-in-ones Apple, analysts say.
