The Commission under the Federation Council is developing a draft law on control of turnover of mobile phones. According to the proposal, the factory phone code (IMEI) is tied to data with the SIM cards, and information will be in the registry, writes “Kommersant”.
Members of the Commission proposes to prohibit in Russia the sale of phones without IMEI. The meeting was attended by representatives of Apple, Samsung, FSB, MVD, Prosecutor’s office, MTS, VimpelCom, MegaFon, Tele2, Ministry of communications, Roskomnadzor, the Federal customs service. The initiative was supported by representatives of the interior Ministry, noting that the IMEI knowledge required for operational-investigative activities.
This is not the first attempt to introduce a single register IMEI. In 2011, the state Duma deputies proposed to block the IMEI work stolen mobile phones. In 2010, the Ministry of internal Affairs suggested to oblige the operators to register the IMEI.
