Qualcomm introduced the world’s first mobile modem with support for 5G

Qualcomm said that the new modem is capable of transmitting data at speeds of over one Gigabit per second, reports Android Police.

Snapdragon X50 is the world’s first mobile modem to support the new data transmission standard 5G. Executive Vice President of Qualcomm said that during the tests, the communication speed exceeding 1 Gbps. He noted that in the presence of a complete infrastructure, a modem capable of operating at speeds up to 5 Gbps.

Qualcomm also unveiled the smartphone on which you installed the Snapdragon X50. It will be used for testing 5G networks. Despite the fact that the smartphone will go on sale, Qualcomm has paid great attention to its design. As a flagship in 2017, the smartphone Qualcomm installed edge-to-edge display and dual camera, and the Cabinet is made of glass.

Qualcomm representatives reported that the final testing Snapdragon X50 will be completed in the first half of 2019. It is expected that this time will be the first smartphone with support of networks of the fifth generation.

Currently, standards for the deployment of 5G networks don’t exist. It is assumed that the first 5G network will appear in 2020.
