Putin has asked to postpone the punishment for not obeying the law on the transfer of personal data to Russia

The Association of European businesses (AEB) has asked President Vladimir Putin to postpone for a year, until September 1, 2016, the entry into force of sanctions for breach of the law on the transfer of personal data in the Russian Federation. About it reports on Monday, the “Kommersant” with reference to an informed source.

The head of the AEB Philip Pegorye conveyed this request to Putin at the St Petersburg economic forum (PEF). Its essence lies in the fact that the law came into force, as expected, September 1, 2015, but remained dormant. “That is, that its sanctions have been applied in a year, September 1, 2016”, — said the interlocutor of the edition.

Putin asked to work on this issue his aide Andrei Belousov. A source in the Kremlin acknowledged that the proposal from the AEB really was, but the specific decision on it yet.

The law “On personal data” that required foreign Internet companies to store personal data of Russian citizens on servers located in Russia, was passed by the Parliament on 4 July 2014. President Putin signed it in July 2014.

Initially the document was to enter into force on 1 January 2015. But in September 2014, a group of deputies in the Duma introduced a bill to change this term to January 2015, citing the complexity of the international situation.

Market participants are requested to delay the entry of new requirements, calling the new deadline was impossible to implement due to technological reasons. The hasty introduction of regulation would, according to them, to disrupt foreign social networks, online stores, cloud services, services for the sale of tours and tickets. But the state Duma has decided to postpone the beginning of its action on 1 September 2015.

It is known that Google already stores some data on-site data center in Russia. Early in the year, representatives of eBay and PayPal confirmed that they are ready to store personal data of Russians in our country. Apple has already held consultations with the Roskomnadzor, but comments on this are not provided.

In August last year, Apple reached an agreement with China Telecom about storing user data on server capabilities in China. All data storage which provides Chinese operator, encrypted, as well as in other data centers around the world.
