Processor Apple A9 has bypassed the flagship Samsung Exynos chip and Snapdragon 820 8890 in GeekBench benchmark

This week was marked by the announcement of two top-end chipsets Exynos and Snapdragon 820 8990. Flagship processors from Samsung and Qualcomm will be part of the Android flagships of 2015 and 2016 release.

Unlike its predecessor, the Exynos 7 Octa 7420, the Samsung Exynos 8 Octa is a single-chip system, equipment which incorporates the first 64-bit processor architecture ARMv8 own development and the latest in cellular modem LTE Rel.12 Cat.12/13.

Exynos 8990 designed to produce according to the norms of 14 nm FinFET technology. In the configuration includes four high-performance cores and four energy-efficient cores ARM Cortex-A53, United under the scheme big.LITTLE. The graphics subsystem presents the latest GPU Mali-T880.

Snapdragon 820, in turn, is the flagship processor from Qualcomm. New system-on-chip also manufactured according to the norms of 14-nanometer manufacturing process technology FinFET. It includes computing a 64-bit kernel development Kryo, graphics core Adreno 530, X12 LTE modem, a digital signal processor Hexagon 680 and 14-bit image processor Qualcomm Spectra.

Exynos and Snapdragon 820 8990 joined the already announced platforms Helio X20 MediaTek, HiSilicon Kirin 950 and the Apple A9. And, of course, analysts could not compare their performance, for which we used the GeekBench 3 benchmark.

Judging by the diagram, the highest performing chipset in the world was Apple A9. The processor, Apple was able to beat all of its competitors, showing the result in 2527 points in GeekBench 3. And behind it there is a platform Exynos 8890 (2270 points), Snapdragon 820 (2250 points), Helio X20 (1890 points) and Kirin 950 (1820 points).

However, there is one caveat. Testing was conducted only in a single thread GeekBench 3 and take into account the performance of only a single core chipset. But the overall performance rivals A9 will be higher due to the use of more cores.

In this connection it is curious to recall rumours that Apple intends to increase the number of processor cores in the Apple A10 to six. At least this information to have Chinese sources. This step will allow Apple to significantly increase the CPU performance in multithreaded tasks.
