New standard IEEE 802.3 bz will increase the speed of the Ethernet connection of up to 5 Gbps without replacing cables

Organization Ethernet Alliance formally ratified IEEE 802.3 bz. It completes the standard Ethernet, expanding the bandwidth of a modern wired networks up to 5 Gbit/s. While replacing the already existing cable infrastructure, including cable categories Cat5e and Cat6, such cables are more than 70 billion meters worldwide), is not required.

Requirements for high-speed performance networks inevitably grow in connection with increase in number of users and access points 802.11 ac Wi-Fi. Traditional uplink-port 1000Base-T standard, which offers bandwidth of 1 GB/s in many cases becomes a narrow neck. Therefore there is a need for a new standard. Experts group IEEE 802.3 bz failed 5 times to raise the bar for high speed Ethernet without resorting to drastic solutions.

There are two versions of the specification — IEEE 802.3 bz 2.5 G with a bandwidth of 2.5 Gbps and IEEE 802.3 bz 5G with a bandwidth of 5 Gbit/s. Since the inception of the initiative and until the ratification of the standard was less than two years. In IEEE 802.3 bz describes the parameters of the MAC-level physical layer specification (PHY), and management objects.

Specification IEEE 802.3 bz allows to elegantly bridge the gap between the existing infrastructure of Gigabit Ethernet and higher-speed solutions without extra costs.
