Modular smartphone Google Project Ara will be released next year [video]

The smartphone project Project Ara have not appeared on the pages of thematic resources. Even in 2015, Google intended to launch a pilot batch of devices in Puerto Rico, but that didn’t happen. It seemed that the device simply abandoned or postponed indefinitely. But today Google released a promo video of the device and have announced plans to start selling smartphones with replaceable modules in 2017.

The project, called Ara, is Google’s attempt to offer smartphone users a new concept of mobile devices, the appearance of which will also be easily tuned as its interior design. At the presentation the company demonstrated some removable and replaceable modules for such devices: reinforced lenses for cameras, batteries, speakers, holders for mints, etc.

Curious extraction system modules. In the smartphone there are no holes for clips or buttons. In order to dismantle any module, you will need to go to the corresponding item of settings and choose the desired. After that, the module will shut down and it can be removed. Or you can simply give a voice command, which is much more convenient.

Promotional video Google posted is not just. Google’s new plans involve the release of a new smartphone for developers in the fourth quarter of this year. The consumer version is expected next year.

The project was announced by Google owned manufacturer Motorola gadgets in 2013. Later the project took a different Department Google Group advanced technology and projects. The first modular release of the gadget was expected in 2015, but later the representatives of Google said that the release of a new smartphone is delayed.
