Mobile competitor “Yandex.Music and Zvooq has become available on iOS and Android

Music streaming service MixRadio has released a mobile app for iOS and Android. Previously, it was available only to owners of smartphones running Windows Phone.

The MixRadio users can listen to music on smartphones, including mixes from music experts — however, accompanied by advertising. Thus, the service competes directly in Russia with the application “Yandex.Music and Zvooq, and on the global market it will compete with Spotify and the upcoming Apple Music service. In the future the creators MixRadio are planning to launch a paid premium version of the service, in which there is no advertising.

“The key benefits MixRadio are millions of legal tracks in the catalogue and the opportunity to listen to music offline. In addition, we have our own system of analysis of musical preferences and individual selections of music that users can rate on My Mix,” said the developers. The service has no web version.

In Russia, the service agreed to cooperate with a number of music labels, including Right Communications, Navigator, The Orchard, and others. In addition, MixRadio announced a number of strategic partnerships — thus, Microsoft will continue preinstall service on Lumia devices worldwide, with the app available for Windows Phone users without ads.

The MixRadio service came into existence in 1999 under the name OD2, and in 2004 undertook a merger with the company LoudEye, which soon bought Nokia. In 2012, Nokia has renamed its music service from Nokia Music to Nokia MixRadio and shifted to personalized music recommendation.

However, the sale of the mobile division of Nokia from Microsoft in 2014 MixRadio service was separated into an independent legal entity. Finally, in March of this year, the service has purchased the Japanese company Line which operates the largest messenger. The transaction amount was not disclosed, however, these investments have helped the service to run on iOS and Android.
