Microsoft has named the reasons of the largest in the history of the fall of Skype

The Microsoft representatives told about the reasons of the failure of the popular VoIP service Skype in the beginning of this week, which im about 17 hours could not use people all over the world, including Russia.

The most ambitious in the history of the fall of Skype took place on 21 September: the client and then to the web version of the service was not available or was operating intermittently. According to Microsoft, the largest in the history of the fall of the service was caused by making configuration changes on a larger scale than usual. Some versions of the Skype app did not “understand” these changes, and they have lost the connection with the service.

As explained by the company, users, seeing that they are in offline mode, began to try to reconnect to the service. This increased the load on the servers Skype and has exacerbated the situation. Many have lost the ability to make free calls, send messages, change status, and manage contracts, to enter or leave the service to make calls to landlines and mobile phones.

“As soon as we learned about the problem, we redistribute network load. Thus we were able to restore the normal operation Skype”, – explained in a press-service of the service and apologized to users for the inconvenience, adding that Skype for business was not affected by the failure.

We will remind, during a failure of the contacts in the list of client versions shown as being offline, even if users were on the network. Call on Skype was impossible; also recorded difficulties with sending messages in group chats and private messages were sent and were accepted with delays.

In the first half of 2011, Skype has experienced two major failure, separated by just two weeks. Before that massive problems connecting to the service were observed in December 2010.
