Media: Apple plans to increase the diagonal OLED display iPhone to 5.8 inches

According to Chinese sources, Apple in December of last year was negotiating with Samsung and LG in order to find out whether these companies to produce enough OLED panels by 2017 to equip their new iPhone. This suggests that the first iPhone with a display on organic light emitting diodes, the company intends to release in the next year. As found in the publication Digitimes, Cupertino plans to increase the diagonal of the iPhone with OLED display to 5.8 inches.

According to resource, the main provider of new display panels will be the company Samsung. Two other vendor – LG Display and Japan Display. The first will be ready to begin production of OLED displays as early as 2017, Japan Display to join in 2018. According to the publication, for the first year Apple plans to sell about 50 million iPhones equipped with OLED displays. It is possible that the screens manufactured by the company for new technology will only be available in the top models because of limited initial supply.

Regarding the transition to OLED, then this statement looks quite realistic, because every year Apple updates their iPhone, adding new features and improving hardware. This year, Apple will likely introduce the iPhone 7, and it is logical to assume that in 2017 will be released the iPhone 7s. It’s possible that Apple will replace LCD displays for OLED and will increase to 5.8-inch diagonal the senior modification, thus obtaining a model of the “iPhone 7s”.

The OLED displays are brighter, more saturated colors, deeper blacks and lower power consumption than LCD panels. Samsung already for a long time uses its own AMOLED panels in many Galaxy smartphones that attract users. In turn, Apple needs to offer something new to attract new consumers and increase sales of the iPhone.
