Konami has decided to revive a series of games Contra and transfer it to mobile devices. As it became known, the publisher has signed an agreement with Chinese telecommunications company Tencent, under which a new “contra” will be released on smartphones running iOS and Android.
Earlier this year, Konami has released the list of classic games, asking gamers about the return of them what they dream of most. The most votes got a horizontal scrolling shooter Contra, which was released for the NES console in 1987.
Mobile Contra will be created in the familiar genre of run-and-gun. But without innovation will not do. Players can expect the emergence of in-app payments to purchase better weapons or increasing the number of lives. It might upset fans of the series, which was famous for its high level of complexity. However, the developers promise to keep the spirit of the original Contra.
Thus, Konami has confirmed previously appeared information about the new strategy with the priority on mobile device. Apparently, the management is confident that in the future this area will become more profitable. In September, the company said it is working on Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Castlevania, PES and other series.
I should add that in the Contra series includes more than a dozen games, the latest Hard Corps: Uprising is out on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2011.
