KGI: iPhone 8 release delayed until October-November due to problems with the supply of major components

The beginning of sales iPhone 8 this year will be postponed due to delays with the start of mass production of components for the new smartphone. This was reported by well-known KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, referring to information from reliable sources.

Apple will delay scheduled for autumn 2017 release updated models of the iPhone, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the device. The reason for the delay lies in the “important hardware updates” that require special components. In particular, we are talking about OLED display panels, a custom 10-nm processors Apple A11, the new module 3D Touch and 3D camera.

“Because of the limited capacity of suppliers (of components) mass production of the new iPhone could begin in October or November. Therefore, the device may be available only two months after the traditional autumn Apple presentation”, – stated in the message of the analyst.

It is reported that the iPhone 8 will have OLED display, which would be better than the iPhone 7 Plus, but the dimensions of the new device will be similar to the iPhone 7. To reduce the size of the product is partly managed by embedding the Home button with a fingerprint scanner in the screen.

This year Apple is planning to release three new smartphones: in addition to the premium models of the iPhone 8 is expected to debut updated versions of two existing versions of iPhone. The yield of the latter will be held in accordance with the traditional schedule in September. It is expected that it will be “remakes” the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The redesign of the gadgets will include improved hardware, including a next-generation processor and updated camera.

KGI builds pessimistic predictions about the iPhone 7s. Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi latest generation has made “Apple” innovations less attractive, says Kuo.

Initially, analysts predicted shipments of the new iPhone (7s, 7s Plus and iPhone 8) at 110 million in the second half of 2017. Problems with the early production iPhone with OLED screen forced to reduce the projected amount to 80-90 million units.
