iPhone 8 will be the last Apple smartphone with IPS screen

Along with iPhone X September 12, Apple introduced a more traditional iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. Rosenblatt Securities analyst Jun Zhang said that the iPhone 8 / 8 Plus, most likely, will not be the last smartphones with IPS display.

In its June report noted that sales of the iPhone X is stable, but the price is still an obstacle for many buyers. Some people are just not able to pay 1000 dollars for a smartphone. So June thinks that next year Apple will release a smartphone with a cheaper screen, but with a design similar to the iPhone X.

“I believe that Apple can reduce the cost of the iPhone X with IPS display, keeping the design of the new iPhone in the style of the anniversary model,” says June in the report.

Similar estimates gives the report KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He believes that next year Apple will release two smartphones with edge-to-edge OLED display and one with IPS.

“I think that edge-to-edge OLED models will differ only in screen size. IPS variant will get weaker specifications, for example, fewer pixels per inch. However, Apple is likely to embed in the smartphone entire set of sensors technology Face ID. The price of the cheaper model will vary 649-749 dollars,” says Kuo.

“Our research shows that Apple has increased production of the iPhone 7 / 7 Plus 3-4 million units, and decreased by the same amount the release of the iPhone 8 /8 Plus. Between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 that consumers prefer in favour of the model of last year. As more affluent people choose iPhone X” — added June Zhang.
