iPhone 7s will be the first Apple smartphone with OLED screen

Recently we wrote about the fact that Apple plans to use the panel type OLED in future iPhones. Now the resource Business Korea reports that suppliers are preparing for a significant expansion of production capacity in 2017. Next year iPhone 7s can go on a display panel of a new type.

As it became known, LG Display, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of screens for various electronics, intends to increase the production of panels based on organic light emitting diodes. This will construct a new factory. The new venture, which is scheduled to open in a relatively short time, will start mass production of OLED displays in the first half of 2017. The planned volume of investments into the project is not disclosed.

According to the South Korean Agency, OLED LG Display factory is located in Gumi (located 260 km South-East of Seoul) and will produce about 15,000 substrates with displays on a monthly basis.

Currently, LG Display is also building a factory in the town to Paje (North of Seoul), which will manufacture OLED panels, including flexible. This industrial complex will occupy an area commensurate with the area of 14 football fields, and its height will be 100 meters. To complete the construction of the facility is planned in the first half of 2018. The cost of the factory was estimated at 10 trillion won (8,51 billion).

LG Display to invest in OLED production amid rumors that Apple decided to use the iPhone like screens. LG Display is one of three suppliers of screens for smartphones and tablets Apple along with Sharp and Japan Display.
