India will be glad to help Apple to expand production

Commerce Minister of India Suresh Prabhu in an interview to The Economic Times said that the country would be happy if Apple will increase production and strengthen its presence in the region.

Suresh Prabhu said that the government of India is ready to help the Corporation to overcome any challenges that Apple may face in the new market, in the case of the company’s interest:

“If we get a good offer from Apple, we will be very happy to host one of the leaders of the world market. The government of India is open to cooperation and will help to solve all possible problems on the way of the company. We’ll be happy to find a way to overcome any obstacles.”

Apple came in India in early 2017, when it moved back production of the iPhone SE. Then the government had to make concessions and to reduce the requirements to the company. In the fall of 2017, the Indian division of Apple Wistron has announced plans to increase production capacity and to build another plant area of over 40 hectares.

The unit is engaged in active negotiations about opening in India Apple Store. The statements made by the Minister of trade may mean that soon the country will begin work branded Apple stores.

Support of the government of India will help the Corporation to strengthen its position in the Asian market. This is especially important in light of recent events in South Korea, where on the eve of the start of sales of iPhone X Apple office the police raided.
