iFixit took video with a tactile response called the taptic Engine in the iPhone 6s

Long before the announcement of the iPhone 6s rumored that in addition to the 3D Touch Apple plans to integrate the smartphone sensor called the taptic Engine. Technology tactile response is a system with linear actuator. Familiar with the vibration motor in the iPhone is no more. Thanks to a special mechanism inside the housing, a gadget like for the user in response.

A mechanism called the taptic Engine was originally developed with an eye on the Apple Watch. Engineers had to work hard to provide a comfortable level of tactile feedback for a Force Touch display. The sensor is able to remind yourself to only one user oscillation, whereas the conventional vibration motor should make about ten.

Apple describes as follows “a brand new technology called the taptic Engine”:

“iPhone 6s instantly responds to every gesture not only the implementation of the relevant actions on the display, but an easy response from the actuator called the taptic Engine. Reaction force meets force of pressing on the display, so you know what you are doing and what will be the result.”

Specialists iFixit disassembled the iPhone 6s, found that in new smartphones the mechanism adds to the unit’s weight as much as 15 grams, which is quite noticeable.

“Called the taptic Engine takes up most of the space under the battery, resulting in no choice but to reduce the capacity of the battery, Apple was left.”

Using x-rays, iFixit has demonstrated the operation of the vibration motor of the “new generation”:

As we can see, the module is called the taptic Engine is hidden under the aluminium casing, in which is embedded a few springs.

“Actually, black color mechanism of the image is not due to the attempt to select it in the editor. Some components simply absorb radiation. Similar behavior occurs if the design uses magnets, said iFixit. – I should note that the introduction of the module called the taptic Engine did not affect the maintainability of the iPhone 6s. Smartphones from Apple on this indicator have earned 7 out of 10 points”.

In turn, the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 miserably failed this “test”, earning only 2 points out of 10.

And yet, why did they have called the taptic Engine? As mentioned above, the sensor works in tandem with the module of a smartphone with a 3D Touch, which is a further development of the Force Touch technology. In fact, it provides feedback to the user. Agree, much better tactile feel the response to the touch than guess work “empowered” press or not.

Thanks to the new mechanism, the user will always know what action happens in the moment: the context menu or the preview. The function is intended to help users quickly learn and new 3D Touch features of the iPhone 6s.
