Google Chrome will support FLAC format

Google in the next version of Chrome will present a novelty for lovers of quality sound. 56 Chrome for Mac and Windows will get native support for audio format FLAC. This means that users of the program will be able to reproduce high-quality sound files directly in the web browser.

When you select a FLAC file in the Chrome browser will open a separate tab with the multimedia player. It can be used to adjust the volume level and skip playback. There is no album art and other graphic images, a simple black background.

Support for FLAC format is already available in the operating system Chrome OS on a Chromebook. The launch of such a file opens the player with the image of the album.

Windows 10 has many applications that work with FLAC due to the native support system of the codec. Not so lucky users of macOS who have to use a third party program, like VLC. Nothing is reported about the possibility of FLAC support in Chrome for iPhone and iPad.

Note that Chrome browser will not be the first with this capability. Mozilla adds support for the FLAC version of Firefox browser 51, which is scheduled for release on January 24.
