FAS filed a case against Media Markt because of the prices on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus

The Federal Antimonopoly service (FAS) initiated a case against “Media-Markt-Saturn” who owns the Media Markt stores, due to the fact that the company did not provide pricing information on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in a timely. It is reported by RNS with reference to the statement reads.

The company was required to provide pricing details on the iPhone from October 9 to 22 December 2015, but did not. An administrative offence for the failure to submit information upon the request of Federal Antimonopoly body provided by part 5 of article 19.8 of the Russian Code of administrative offences. It entails a fine for legal entities from 50 000 to 500 000 rubles.

On 16 February, the FAS initiated the verification of large digital retailers because of suspicions of collusion in the pricing of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. In particular, the Agency became interested in the pricing for smartphones in 16 retailers, including “Euroset”, “Svyaznoy”, “M. Video”, “Eldorado”, “Technosila”, re:Store, “Beeline”, “MegaFon”, MTS, “Mobilend”, Ozon.ru. In addition, the FAS are going to check out the official online Apple store in Russia.

“We are checking. We sent inquiries and conduct an investigation on those facts, which, in particular, were specified”, — said Deputy head of management FAS on struggle against cartels Andrey Filimonov. The investigation also featured Apple press release, 28 September 2015, which are the same rates that are currently at retailers.

These facts, according to FAS, indicate that the stores in pricing did not act independently. The Agency stated that it will monitor the pricing of the iPhone 7, the presentation of which is scheduled for September.

FAS is not the first time suspect retailers of price collusion on sales of the iPhone. In 2012, the service acknowledged “Beeline” and MTS guilty of concerted action to establish identical wholesale prices for the iPhone 4. While companies were fined 18 million rubles and 16 million rubles, respectively.
