Every 10 seconds there is a new malicious Android application

Malicious software for the Android operating system is spreading with alarming speed: the new samples appear every 10 seconds. To such conclusion German research firm G Data.

According to experts, in the first quarter of 2017 created more than 750 000 new viruses for Android. It’s almost 8400 new malicious programs per day. It is expected that by the end of the year the total number of such software will grow to 3.5 million

Security researchers warn that the problem is particularly prevalent among device manufacturers of the second echelon. For such gadgets updates come out less frequently and often with considerable delays. The situation is aggravated by the fact that only a small part of smartphones and tablets use the latest version of Android 7.0.

Viruses especially are actively distributed on devices with Lollipop and Marshmallow: they have two-thirds of all the infected applications.

Statistics on versions of the mobile platform Google as follows:

  • Gingerbread (2.3–2.3.7): 0.9 percent;
  • Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3–4.0.4): 0.9 Percent;
  • Jelly Bean (4.1.x–4.3): 10.1 percent;
  • KitKat (4.4): 20,0%;
  • Lollipop (5.0–5.1): 32,0%;
  • Marshmallow (6.0): 31,2%;
  • Nougat (7.0–7.1): 4,9%.

Experts note that in 2016 and 2015, they found at least 3.2 million and 2.3 million infected apps for Android respectively.

If you consider that almost nine out of ten mobile phones around the world work on Android, there is nothing surprising in such love hackers OS from Google.
