Scientists have figured out how to help heavy smokers to overcome the desire to smoke. It turns out that for these purposes in the course are not only favorite foods and sex, but even games on the iPad, reports The British Daily Mail.

Psychologists asked dozens of students every 15 minutes to report how much they have the desire to smoke. Half of the participants gave the tablet to pass the time between messages, and offered to play “Tetris”. Revealed that employed experimental game craving for a cigarette is decreased by 20% compared with those who toiled from idleness.

The game pulls the mental processes that underlie the imagination: “it is hard to quickly imagine and at the same time to play”, — tells one of the authors of the study Professor Jackie Andrade of the University of Plymouth.

“For the first time we have demonstrated that cognitive impairments can be used to reduce craving for nicotine,” said the scientist.

British psychologists recommend to smokers who wish to give up the habit, try the game in Tetris and other mobile arcade.
