Apple plans to abandon the Touch ID technology for the biometric identification of iPhone and iPad users. This was told by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. This year, the company will use a proprietary fingerprint scanner, but in the future his replacement will come a new improved system of identification of users.

Since 2013, Apple uses the fingerprint scanner Touch ID for authorization and confirmation of purchases. The iPhone 5s and iPhone SE uses the sensors of the first generation, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 – advanced modules of the second generation. Capacitive CMOS sensors produce scanning of the fingertip using a resolution of 500 ppi and then recognize the pattern, even if the finger is at different angles.

This technology is suitable for smartphones and tablets with a separate Home button. In the case of the iPhone 8 will no longer be capacitive module developed by AuthenTec, bought by Apple in 2013, in favor optical, because the smartphone display will occupy the entire front panel of the smartphone and a separate button just left of the place. According to Kuo, “Apple” giant is negotiating with the developers of this technology.

8 iPhone fingerprint scanner will complement the identification system with the camera. The following models of smartphones Apple is planning to abandon the system of fingerprint modules in favor of more advanced and more secure system of identification of a person’s face.

The principle of operation of the new system is built on the comparison of the previously obtained image stored in the memory of the iPhone, with the image coming from the camera. Function analyzes the degree of similarity of the most characteristic features of the face such as eyes and mouth contours, and the result of the comparison is used to select a user profile, and grant or restrict access to the device.
