Apple launched the App it Slicing to save space on devices with iOS 9

For several years the amount of memory in the base versions of the iPhone does not change and is 16GB, and users of such devices will sooner or later face a lack of space. Presented in iOS 9 App Thinning should help to solve this problem.

At the end of September it became known that Apple is delaying the launch of important functions, enabling you to save space on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch with iOS 9. “Slicing App currently available for iOS 9 and the error related to a feature of the iCloud backups, because of which some apps from the App Store can only be restored on the same device”, – stated in the message Apple.

A few days after the release of iOS 9.0.2 Slicing function the App became available for developers. About this Apple wrote in its newsletter. “The problems impeding the operation of the App Slicing, fixed, and versions of applications for different devices now available to users on iOS 9.0.2 and higher,” the company explained.

Games and apps in the App Store are universal – they take into account the specifics of each supported generation of iOS devices. The reverse side of this approach is the increase of the occupied space. For example, loaded on four iPhone 4s apps and games contain useless 64-bit code and unnecessary modules to support the most advanced graphics APIs.

For more efficient use of internal memory in iPhone iOS 9 App created by the Slicing mechanism. It allows to divide the data packets of the program and the device to download only the necessary elements. Slices App allows developers to separate the data by type of devices, and when the user needs to download the app from the App Store, the device will download only the data that he needs. Apple has made this process as simple as possible, so most of the programs in the future will support this feature.
