Apple decided not to publish data on iPhone sales over first weekend

Traditionally, a few days after the launch of the new iPhone, Apple has shared data about how many copies were bought in its first weekend. This year the company decided to break the long tradition and not to publish data on the sales of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in the first weekend.

Apple spokesman explained the decision by saying that these data ceased to be relevant for investors and customers, as sales for the first weekend depends on the amount of supply of the devices in stores, and not real demand. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be available in thousands of locations worldwide, the company does not even doubt that the initial stocks will be instantly sold out. However, Bloomberg notes that this indicator was one of the key, which some investors determined the success of the new iPhone models.

Analysts were skeptical of Apple’s explanation. Reuters interviewed experts believe that the iPhone has passed the peak demand in 2016, the company will not be able to report record sales as it has done before.
